Arans Estate Agents
3rd October 2007
Back in 1999 Arans Estate agents suffered a disaster. On the face of it there should have been nothing to worry about.
One morning whilst a minor refurbishment of the office was underway the builders put a nail through an electric cable in the wall. This was unlucky as the wire should have been going down from the power point but was in fact going up.
The result was that the main server was blown. The office ran exclusively on a bespoke client management software system, this meant that all the house buyers that were registered on the system together with the houses that they were selling and the up to date information on sales that were going through couldn’t be accessed.
However the estate agents did have tape back up which they believed could be resurrected very quickly and hence work restarted.
Unfortunately they hadn’t thought about having a replacement server available to put the data onto. This they found had to be ordered which took over a week. Once they had the server the data had to be down loaded from the tapes which took two days. What they found out was the tapes hadn’t been backed up for 10 days previous to the failure. They were now almost 3 weeks behind with many unhappy clients and with sales having taken a nose dive.
In the end they got everything going and started trading.
Arans Estate agents are no longer in business.
